Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative (CCEC) is closely monitoring weather conditions and is prepared to respond quickly should the approaching winter weather result in mid-week power outages.
While the forecast for CCEC’s service territory is still uncertain, significant snowfall is possible. This can lead to power outages caused primarily by falling trees and branches contacting power lines.
“Our top priority is serving our members and communities,” said CCEC communications director Melissa Glenn. “If the storm causes power outages, we will do everything we can to minimize disruption to service while keeping members informed and safe. Just like we ensure our teams are prepped and ready, we urge our members to do the same and prepare now for the possibility of outages from the approaching winter storm.”
Steps you can take to prepare now include:
- Assemble an emergency kit. The kit should include a supply of non-perishable food, water, and medication, as well as any other items you might need in case of a power outage, such as blankets, first-aid supplies, flashlights, and batteries.
- Prepare for outages. Charge cell phones and other important electronic devices, gather medications and important documents, and consider making alternative shelter arrangements if you will be significantly impacted by power disruptions.
- Stay informed. Enable emergency alerts on your cell phone to help you make decisions for you or your family.
While members prepare at home, CCEC crews are using this time to gather materials, stock trucks, and test power restoration equipment.
“We prepare throughout the year to help minimize power disruptions from all types of weather – from tropical systems to winter storms,” said Glenn. “This storm is no different.”
If outages occur, restoration personnel will work as quickly and safely as possible to restore power to all members. CCEC members are encouraged to report any outages by signing up for outage texting; text CCEMC to 1.800.682.2217 to enroll in outage texting.
