As multiple broadband providers work to bring their services to additional areas of Carteret and Craven counties, you may notice utility poles being replaced. CCEC is allowing these companies to attach broadband equipment to the co-op's poles through what is known as a pole attachment agreement, which relieves both companies from having to build their own poles, helping to expedite the deployment of broadband services.
In some cases, in order to safely accommodate all of the required equipment, the pole must be replaced. To ensure electric rates remain affordable, broadband companies are required to pay the entire make-ready cost for any pole replacement and pay a yearly fee to the co-op for as long as their equipment is attached to the co-op's pole.
Currently, there are 600 poles scheduled for replacement in the co-op's service territory. CCEC has contracted additional crews to help with this project; you may see crews working on weekends to complete these pole replacements as quickly as possible.
